Default October in May, May in October?

Remarkably blocked and "flabby" charts predicted right out to October
10th in GFS - seems much more like typical spring conditions than
autumn. Perhaps since we got October weather in May, we're getting May
weather in October?

Not sure if it's just my imagination, but more generally, the onset of
the first stormy spell of autumn *seems* to be getting later in the
last 10 years or so. It always seems to arrive mid or even late
October these days, with stormy spells rare at this time of year.
