Default Longyearbyen looking good...

Since someone (kindly) posted the link below I love looking at
Longyearbyen each morning. Today is a cracking view, around -7 C at 1000.

(From Wiki): Longyearbyen is the administrative centre of Svalbard and
is located on Spitsbergen, the largest island of the Svalbard
archipelago. Longyearbyen has approximately 1,800 inhabitants, most of
them Norwegians and some Russians. It is the world's northernmost town
with over 1000 people. The largest populated settlement more northerly
than Longyearbyen is Ny-Ålesund with 30 inhabitants. As the world's
northernmost town with 1000 people or more, it has the world's
northernmost of many things.

Hi Brian,

I must admit that this is one of my favourite webcams too. It's fascinating
seeing the midnight sun (which disappeared a few weeks ago now).

If you check it out daily you'll notice that what daylight is left, will
have all but disappeared by the end of this month. Then it will be four
months of darkness. I quite like the idea of experiencing 24 hour daylight,
but I don't know how I'd manage four months of darkness! The current snow
arrived about a week ago and looks as though it's too late in the season for
a thaw.

Meanwhile, down in the southern hemisphere, there's a great webcam on South
Georgia... I currently awaiting the arrival of the seals and penguins!

Just like the Svalbard webcams, the view is great when the weather is clear
and sunny... so if it's a bit misty, be patient and come back later.

Regards... David Allan.

Another webcam is on Jan Mayen. It isn't updated as regularly (and no time
stamp) but this image is recent.
