Default Today's model interpretation (14/10/07)

Note: As usual during the summer half of the year I'll soon be off to the
wolves, hence the shorter then normal analysis.

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Friday. Issued 0501z,
14th October 2007.

In summary, the end of the working week will see a ridge over England and
Wales, with light southerlies or SE'lies. Fog and perhaps frost could be a
problem towards the SE of England. Meanwhile Scotland and Northern Ireland
lie under brisk southerlies, with warmer temperatures by night and a risk of
rain as fronts approach from the Atlantic. Into the weekend any changes will
be slow to occur, with ECM keeping the whole weekend dry and relatively warm
(by day at least).

ECMWF: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da...mwf/ecmwf.html
Southerlies and SSW'lies cover the UK, with high pressure over the southern
North Sea and a ridge over England and Wales. The high moves eastwards on
day 6, allowing southerlies and SE'lies to affect the UK. On day 7 the high
persists to the east, with further southerlies and SE'lies for the UK.

MetO: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da...ukmo/pslv.html
MetO shows southerlies over the UK, again with a high over the southern
North Sea. The high builds and moves swiftly ENE'wards on day 7, leaving
southerlies over the UK.

GFS: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/pslv_frame.htm
A large high covers Germany, with a ridge westwards over East Anglia. Winds
are southerlies for most, with easterlies for the far south of England.
There's little change on day 6, but by day 7 a weak trough moves over
Scotland and Northern Ireland, bringing SSW'lies there. Elsewhere winds are
light southerlies or SSE'lies, with a ridge persisting over England and
Wales.

GEM: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da.../gem/pslv.html
The Canadian run brings southerlies with a high to the ESE of the UK.

JMA: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rjma1201.gif
Unlike the other runs, JMA shows high pressure over Wales, with NW'lies for
England and southerlies elsewhere.
