Default Low October minima

Continuing Jonathan's theme, last night's minimum here was 0.4C which
looking at Keith's data for Southend is almost certainly the lowest since
1997. Nice to get some "old fashioned" autumnal weather.

Last night I went down to 0.6°C which is the lowest October minimum
since 1997 when I recorded -1.5°c on the 29th and the 30th October 1997.
My lowest is -2.5°C on 30th October 1983.

No records in Birmingham -0.5C being a bit higher than the long-term
minimums that are around -3C for most nights for dates towards the end of
October (mean October mins are c.5C, mean maximums c.11C).

We had a bit of a 'dark easterly' on the south Cornish coast
yesterday. It reached 15.8C, but it certainly didn't feel like it with
only very limited sunshine and the wind gusting well over 20mph at
times. The breeze held last nights minimum up to 7.8C.

Big improvement today, www.easterling.freeserve.co.uk/2110.html (best
not to look Alan)

Despite around 28mm falling in the recent rainfall event, the total
for Aug/Sept/Oct in Penzance currently stands at 113.3mm. The driest
Aug-Oct I've recorded (records start 1991) was 180.8 in 2003

Not quite as dry here Graham, with Aug/Sep/Oct so far producing 123.5 mm of
rain. Still well below the average I should imagine.

Welcome sunshine after yesterday's cloudy afternoon. Only a max of 12.3C
yesterday making it the coldest day since May 27th.

Currently at 14:13, 14.8C, RH 60%, DP 7.7C, 1028.4 mb (F), Wind 8 mph SE,
6.5 hours of sunshine so far today.

Couldn't resist it.

Unremitting gloom here with patches of drizzle.
