I see from NOAA that Shoreham airport is reporting 73F at 1900hrs !

That's nothing : my weather sensor reported 54C at around 9.30 yesterday
morning - though it might *just possibly* have been a glitch...

I once shaved a couple of tenths of a degree off the UK low
temperature record one morning when there appeared to be
only a slight ground frost.
Like you, I was suspicious and discovered a low battery
alert on the indoor receiver
