Default [WR] Bewdley - sleet

Nothing exciting, really no more than a few spots of white in nasty cold
rain (temp about 3°C), and nowhere near what Graham is enjoying (?) in
Weston Coyney a bit higher up and a bit to my north, but it's still the
first wintry precipitation of the season!

Temperature has now risen to 4°C, and there's no sleet left - it's been
plain old rain for a fair while now. Just as the MetO put out a SWW, any
hint of wintriness disappears! :P

18.30GMT: temperature has fallen to 2°C, and it is now just about snowing -
it's managing to settle on the grass and car windows.

23.50GMT: steady snow since my last report, mostly light but with the
occasional moderate burst. Snow depths are now 2cm on the road, 4cm on
(white) car roof, and 6-7cm on grass (with 10cm drifts!). In the last half-
hour or so, the snow has slackened off a lot, and it's now very light - may
even be starting to turn back to sleet/rain.

Now light sleet, and the temperature is 2°C, whereas a few hours ago it was
hovering around zero. If it does turn back to rain and keeps going for a
bit, there might not be much left by morning.

Still snowing here, though only falling lightly. 3cm lying on ground.
Temp 1c.

Continuous light rain here now, and it's beginning to thaw quite obviously.
Temperature 2°C, and the METAR for Birmingham Airport shows that that's
also the dewpoint now (up from zero at 11pm). Not looking good any more,
but it's been a very interesting evening.

13.15GMT: steady thaw continuing. Roads almost entirely clear except for
one or two tiny patches in the shadow of kerbs, which I should think will
be gone within a few minutes. Still a couple of larger patches in the
(north-facing) back garden, but I suspect that they won't survive the
afternoon. Temperature 9°C, which feels very mild!

The following BBC News article mentions that about 20 vehicles got stuck
last night at Clows Top, just a few miles up the road from me although at
considerably greater altitude (about 230m). As in February, we seem to have
been one of the most blessed lowland locations for snow - strange, as
Bewdley is not renowned for its snowiness!
