Default Decreasing Wind?

I thought the wind was supposed to slowly decrease today. Here, in the
far SW the strongest gust overnight was 43mph, it then gusted to 49mph
around 11:30 this morning, and a few minutes ago gusted 51mph.

Presumably he got it from the MetO?

(Silly question I know but this is the BBC we are dealing with. For
all I know he got it from Piers Corbyn.)
