You not even had any sleet Jon?

2007 has been a very poor year for snow falling up here too,
just 11 days of snow falling and 2 days snow lying, locals cannot recall

ever
seeing such a lack of snow in Haytor. Second consecutive December with no

snow
falling, just 2 days of sleet this year which I don't count. Synoptics

have been
very bad with incessant southwesterlies and few cold northwesterlies which
always give snow up here in winter.

2005 was the best year since I came here in 2002 with 22 days snow falling

and
10 days snow lying 50% cover.

Will (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl)

Not as far a as I know, Will. Good chance we might get something this
Thursday though.

Jon.

We had 3 days with snow falling in N Somerset (only 100ft asl, mind).

23rd Jan, 7th & 8th Feb - with sleet on Feb 9th.

Full calendar year without a snow flake coming up here.

That's because snowflakes generally go down. (Sorry!)

Mmm . . www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn485.png currently shows 10C
down here, & 9C in coastal SW Devon for Thursday. Obviously it will be
much colder once you get into central Devon.

As has already been said in this thread, there's a strong element of
people being selective in the data used for predictions. (possibly due
to exposure to the piers virus).

Much more interesting is the fact there's been a really nice winter
swell lately, for those brave enough. www.sennen-cove.com/todaysurf.htm

Lol, don't worry, the Piers virus hasn't got to me. By midnight tonight sub
2C theta-w air will have spread west across much of the UK. On Thursday
morning milder air associated with the occlusion on the MetO progs will edge
north. Coastal areas are likely to get rain, but assuming things go as
currently indicated (note there is some uncertainty..) you won't have to go
too far inland to see some sleet/snow; say from about Will's place
eastwards. Not sure how long it'll last though before the low level air
warms and it all turns more generally to rain and dies out. The GFS output
on Weatheronline gives some guidance on this in terms of the precip type;
beware the GFS' coarse resolution though, both on here and elsewhere. I've
saved the 18Z T+36 here http://www.metbrief.com/Images/GFS+36.gif
