Hello. My name is Bob and I live in the province of Ontario in Canada.
I hope y'all don't mind discussing the weather with a guy from America. I belong to a North American weather group, but also have a genuine interest in UK weather. I vacationed in England in 1990s, but regret not having the time to tour Scotland. I have lived throughout the USA and Canada, so have experienced a variety of weather conditions. Bye. |

Hi I'm heading over your way next month, Toronto for a week and then onto Cleveland OH to meetup with family. I hear you have some _interesting_ weather in those parts? -- Am I the only Gareth Slee? http://garethslee.blogspot.com/ |

I hear you have some _interesting_ weather in those parts? -- Am I the only Gareth Slee?http://garethslee.blogspot.com/ Yeah, our winter weather is extremely variable. The temperature in southern Ontario, where I reside, in February can range from minus 30C to plus 10C. The temperature can change 20C, up or down, in a matter of a few hours. There can be big dumps of snow, though, on occasion, it can get warm enough to rain. The sun does not shine much here in the winter. Typically, the temperature is below freezing (we have had continuous snowcover since about November 25th). The overnight low this past week dropped to minus 24C with a minus 32 windchill. This was preceded by a 25 cm snowfall. However, as of tomorrow, we are beginning a "January thaw". On the 6th it is suppose to reach plus 7C and remain above freezing for several days. It is not unusual for mild air to move in from the south in January and February. |

I have friends and family in various parts of Canada, so I've always kept at least a vague eye on Canadian weather. As you might imagine, it's the winter variety that I find most interesting, given that we have nothing like it here. A friend of mine grew up in Athabasca, northern Alberta, and delighted in telling me what it was like to walk to work in temperatures of -40C... -- Bewdley, Worcs. ~90m asl. |
