Default 10th anniversary of big ice storm

Hi guys (in North America, women are guys too)!

I highly recommend checking out the following website:
www.cbc.ca/photogallery/canada/938

For several days in early January 1998, a huge freezing rain storm
coated a huge area encompassing much of the the province of Ontario
and Quebec with up to 100 mm of ice. Trees, hydro (a Canadianism for
electricity) wires, utility poles and transmission towers came down
causing massive power outages, some for as long as a month. It was the
most expensive natural disaster in Canada. According to Environment
Canada, the ice storm of 1998 directly affected more people than any
other previous weather event in Canadian history.

The ice destroyed many of the mature trees in my parent's backyard.

Being Canada, the ice did not melt right away. Usually the snow and
ice storms we get do little lasting damage, so this ice storm was
exceptional.

Bob
