Default [WR] January Warmth in Devon

Warmest day of the year so far here in the Otter Valley (great saying it but
doesn't mean that much in January) with the temperature now 13.4C and
rising.

Clouds breaking occasionally to give brief glimpses of sunshine. I suspect
there are even warmer days to come this weekend.

Grass desperately needs its 3rd cut this winter but the ground is
waterlogged; just noticed the daises flowering all over the lawn. I can add
those to the list of 'January' flowerings this year along with the Herb
Robert, primroses, daffodils, dandelions, geraniums and a whole load of
others I have forgotten about.

We had a good deal of sunshine yesterday, but only a few glimpses
today, still it's currently 13.5C beating yesterday's 13.4.

How about osteospermum, winter heliotrope & euyryops? I see the local
gardens are planning to open in Feb (Trengwainton 12th Feb, Trelissick
1st Feb). In the old days it used to be around 1st March.

Mean temperature now up to 4.8c here just 0.8c behind last years record
and with the met office forecasting mild or very mild for the
foreseeable future a good chance of beating 2007!

Yesterday's high 12.0c and after a low of just 8.1c were are currently
up to 9.4c!

Monthly rainfall so far 96.6mm with plenty more to come no doubt.

What happened to the drier than normal Winter which was forecast?

Already had my average Winter rainfall with 6 weeks of this dire Winter
left.

Graham,

Cold snap expected on thursday with a few snow showers for you and I on high
ground.
850 hPa temperature is sub -5C and MetO Fax charts show 510 DAM well south of
50N in western Atlantic with 492DAM coming out of Canada. Gets milder again on
Friday though.

Don't think another one day wonder will make much difference to my
overall mean Will!
Still plenty of the mild stuff to come.
