I realize that the UK is not usually not as rainy as the international stereotype, but if this keeps up the rep we be well deserved :-) It must be particularly gloomy this winter. Your days are super short (it gets dark real early), it is frequently overcast and there is no snow on the ground to brighten up the landscape. Bob |

I meant "not usually as rainy" |

I realize that the UK is not usually not as rainy as the
international stereotype, but if this keeps up the rep we be well deserved :-) The other stereotype is that the weather is uniform throughout the UK. It's not. We have just had a gorgeous weekend with plenty of sunshine and only a few spots of drizzle this evening. It was a tad windy some of the time, admittedly. It must be particularly gloomy this winter. Not here it isn't. Your days are super short (it gets dark real early) Ah, but just think of the long summer evenings when it stays light until after 10 o'clock! it is frequently overcast and there is no snow on the ground to brighten up the landscape. True. But only 'frequently', not 'always'. Anne On the sunny southern shore of the Moray Firth |

It's always pleasant to have a lot of time after supper to be outside during the summer. I'm used to stereotypes too. People tend to think that it is always cold in Canada. I lived in America for many years and when people learned that I am from Canada, out popped the ignorant weather comments. Bob |

Your days are super short (it gets dark real early), Does it though? I was in San Francisco (which is in the southern half of the US) in December one year and if I remember right it didn't get dark much later than it does in southern England, perhaps half an hour? Anyhow the stupidly dark evenings (i.e sun going down before 4.30pm) are already over in southern England at least, and will be very shortly even further north. Nick |
