the period)

3 gales so far (5 on the sea front), so back to the low figures which
have typified this century, after a more ''80s & early '90s' winter in
2006/2007.

I don't about Penzance but these last few days of warmth have pushed my mean
temperature for this January above last year's January:

Mean Min Mean Max Mean
Jan 2008 5.5C 10.2C 7.8C (1st - 24th)
Jan 2007 4.2C 11.0C 7.6C

The run of warm nights recently has pushed up the mean minimum quite
considerably after what was a cold start to the month with a couple of air
frosts.

With some calmer weather forecast, and my valley location the mean
temperature will probably drop back a bit.

That's remarkable when you consider that, as recently as 1996, the mean
CET (representative of temperature in the English Midlands) for the year
was 9.2. So only twelve years ago the Midlands temperature averaged over
the year was comparable to what now seems to be the norm for a Penzance
January.
