Hi, All,

Rob McElwee, Countryfile made particular note of the lack of wind
today. Copley currently 1220Z 25028KT (F7) gusting 36KT(42mph).
I have said for some time that there is a distinct lack of real-time
obs in Teesdale!

Ken, Copley,
Teesdale

.... well, if he did say that, then it's an oversight: there are plenty
of METAR & SYNOP reporting stations showing that it is still pretty
windy across the northern-half of the UK, and there is currently a
particularly anomalous 'squeeze' across the northern Pennines as the
upper ridge drifts in from the west.

Martin.

Pity - I thought (having not seen Countryfile forecast in months) it was a
very well-given forecast, despite the fact that as Rob ages he appears to
be morphing (facially and sartorially) into Prince Charles.

Also suggests that although we've got a cold northerly it'll be nothing
special at low ground in the south. Move along, nothing to see here !

But the lack of lines on the pressure chart 'proved' there was little
wind. Ken, I think your instruments must be faulty

I don't watch TV forecasts anymore, but I'd be interested to know what
confidence figure Rob attached to the forecast?

As for gaps, there is only one regularly reporting and publicly available every
10 minute site on Dartmoor - me!!!!!
Guess that's why it is well used LOL.

He said they were pretty confident - one front on Wednesday and then
another Thurs/Friday IIRC.

Although it doesn't seem to be a particularly notably cold northerly? Had
6c in the south come Friday.

I think think your excitement for the forthcoming week is being clouded by
anomalously high altitude and those extra few degrees, Will ! Most of us
mere mortals down south are close to sea level!

Hi, Col,

LOL!
Thanks for the replies, folks. Re-assuring that I'm not the only windy
reporter. The forecast was well presented, and it is a sunny day and
almost 10C - just F7 lee wave spoiling it.
1240Z 27033G41KT.
He seemed pretty confident of snow showers as far south as north Wales
and north Midlands (I assume that was for low ground).

In article ,
Richard Dixon writes:

In defence of Mr McElwee he was showing the lack of lines between Western
England down to central France.

I blame Dr Beeching.

Well GFS 06Z run has 850 hPa of -7C over London on Saturday. I find it hard to
believe that that would mean a max. of 6C? Clearly GFS has not been followed,
which is fair enough, but it shows the possibilities, writing this one off 5
days away is far too premature in my view.
