Interesting temperature difference. How common are weather conditions
which produce colder readings at a lower elevation? I am familiar with
the meaning of katabatic, but it is something not experienced in
southern Ontario.

Hi, Bob,

Give us clear skies and light winds for just 24 consecutive hours and
we're away!
Just 400 metres horizontal and 50 metres vertical distance in the
village makes for a different climate.
Bring back cloud and wind F4+ and things return to normal.
I'm surprised you don't have katabatic (and anabatic) winds - big part
of the climate here.

Hi, Ken.

Much of my knowledge of weather in the Pennines/Yorkshire comes from
reading James Herriot books. He always gave detailed descriptions of
the weather, nature, and life on the farns and in the small villages.
Like you, he says the weather is often windy and cloudy, so a fine,
sunny day is appreciated.

Bob
