Twice on this evenings BBC SW Forecast Alex Deakin said that 'The
light winds meant little surf'.

NO IT DOESN'T

Apart from the fact it was actually breezy here today, the best surf
is when the wind is light or off shore. 2 days ago there was very
little wind & a pretty big wave (10' at Sevenstones).

Nice surf in Thurso recently, and it's certainly not windy (by

Indeed. Light winds mean little in the way of locally generated wind
waves but surf is caused by longer-period swell travelling a
considerable distance from the area of wind that generated it. There's
very little correlation between the surf on a beach and the local wind.
