Significant rain and drizzle in York area for periods this morning. Got
very wet going to shops around 1200. Radar not very efficient at
detecting drizzle even when it's quite heavy.
John

This drizzle is beginning to threaten my lowest monthly rainfall total.
0.7mm 0900 yesterday, followed by 0.8mm this morning have brought the
monthly total to 7.5mm, current record is 9.0mm.
Drizzle returned at 1600 today.

One of the wettest places in England, then. :-)
(The England-and-Wales rainfall stood just below 7mm at 0900 on the 27th).

Philip,

Big storms around Teesside on 10th - Mike Cinderey recorded 49mm in 15
minutes at Carlton in Cleveland. Only 3mm here in Copley that day.

There were deaths and lots of damage in the Hartlepool area. Nothing
much made of it on national news or by our SW based Met O.

ATB,

95% of which fell in those thunderstorms on 10th.

We drove from Manchester through the peak district and then down to
Cambridge on the 10th August. Heavy rain until we hit the M1.On the car
radio it gave out there had been localised flooding in some parts of the
North East and Yorkshire

There was even showers north and west of Cambridge that night, we drove
through them, but they were very localised
