Latest on tomorrow morning's flooding risk in Cornwall.
"Cornwall's emergency planning officer Steve Winston said a combination of factors could lead to a "severe" event. In Cornwall the areas thought to be most at risk of flooding are Newlyn, Falmouth, Flushing and Looe in the south and St Ives and Hayle in the north. Falmouth Coastguard said they will be going out with loud hailers between 1700 and 1800 GMT in a number of areas in Cornwall including Gweek and Penzance areas to warn people. The MetO warning of gusts to 80mph ( http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/...t_weather.html ) seems insignificant in comparison to what the sea might achieve over the next 24 hours. Graham Penzance |

Graham
With strong southerly winds forecast for early tomorrow morning and a high tide around 08:15, I wonder if there might be significant flooding along the south coasts of Devon and Cornwall. I suspect Sidmouth's 'flood defences' will be deployed. ________________ Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Graham Penzance ------------------------- Indeed and the News 24 forecast i saw seemed worryingly flippant about it. Just mentioned in passing parts of the SW coast might see some flooding, but in the context it seemed of little importance to him. Dave |

This morning`s high tide just passed here at Sennen Cove
Glass around 970 ... tide maybe a metre above prediction (?) - certainly a lot of water in the bay, even for a 19ft spring tide. Sea swell in order of 16ft at present (Sevenstones) with wind westerly recently to 60 mph. Swell picking up considerably on buoys to west so this evening`s high water may be interesting ! This morning`s images at www.sennen-cove.com. Terry "Graham Easterling" wrote in message ... Latest on tomorrow morning's flooding risk in Cornwall. Graham Penzance Flooding at St Ives, Fowey & Mevagissey. I've got to go out to Mousehole this afternoon, I'd be surprised if there hasn't been some flooding near Newlyn Bridge, I'll find out then. Power keeps coming and going here. Currently back up to a Force 8 in Penzance, luckily (for Penzance) now offshore. The MEAN wind speed at Scilly jumped from 45mph at 08:00 to 61mph at 08:50 (Force 10) which looks quite serious for west Cornwall in the next hour. 2 large branches have fallen into my garden in the last few minutes. The big swell arrives later today, so the high tide around 19:00 looks very dodgy as well. Graham Penzance |

Also - swell at Sevenstones:- 08:00 22' 09:00 26' 10:00 29' 11:00 35' !! There was flooding at St Ives this morning with the wind offshore & a fairly typical rough sea. Looks like it could be worse for tonights tide (around 19:00) with the wind more onshore, and the pressure still very low & such a huge swell. Graham Penzance |
