Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Sunday.
Issued 0525, 26th March 2008 The first half of the working week looks unsettled for many, with low pressure or a trough crossing the UK. Into the latter half of the week there are signs of a brief settled interlude, as a ridge moves in from the west. Analysis and evolution to T+120 via GFS http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn001.png A col covers the UK, with a trough west of Scotland. Tomorrow the trough crosses the UK, with SE'lies for Scotland and westerlies elsewhere. On Friday a low deepens to the west, with southerlies fro all. The low persists on Saturday, with strong to gale force SW'lies over the UK. T+120 synopsis http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn12015.png / http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn1201.png http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif / http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/nogapse_cartes.php The jetstream chart shows a strong jet across the North Atlantic, with the UK under a trough. At the 500hPa level there's a ridge to the west and upper NW'lies. MetO has a trough to the west and upper SW'lies and ECM brings SW'lies as well. GEM has an upper trough over Scotland, with westerlies elsewhere. At the surface GFS brings low pressure over the North Sea and to the north. NE'lies are the result, with lighter winds and a weak trough over northern Scotland. MetO has westerlies for all, with complex low pressure to the NW, north and NE of the UK. ECM has a low centred to the NW, leading to SW'lies for all. GEM brings a trough over Scotland and strong westerlies elsewhere. Evolution to T+168 A deep low covers the UK on day 6 with ECM, bringing SW'ly gales to much of England. Scotland lies under strong ENE'lies, Northern Ireland and Wales under NW'lies. The low moves NE'wards and fills on Tuesday, leaving SW'lies over the UK. Day 6 with GFS shows a ridge crossing the UK, with a low to the WNW. SW'lies and WSW'lies are the result, followed by NW'lies on day 7 from a low over the North Sea. Looking further afield Moderate NW'lies cover the UK on day 8 with ECM, due to shallow lows to the east and NE. The NW'lies continue on day 9 and by day 10 the winds become NNW'lies, as pressure builds to the NW. On day 8 GFS shows a ridge moving in from the west, with light winds for all. The winds become NW'lies on day 9 as the ridge declines and moves westwards, followed by colder northerlies on day 10. By then, pressure builds to the north. Ensemble analysis (http://91.121.94.83/modeles/gens/gra...ille=Lond res) The ensembles continue to show a mobile "sine wave" pattern for a week at least. Both the operational and control runs were cold outliers in the extended portion of the run. |
