Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon (GMT) on Monday.
Issued 0443z, 24th April 2008 Next week still looks like starting on an unsettled note, with low pressure close by and all areas seeing rain. The models diverge after midweek, with GFS showing the low lingering nearby while the ECM brings a ridge and more settled weather instead. Analysis and evolution to T+120 via GFS http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn001.png Southerlies and SSE'lies cover the UK with low pressure to the WNW and a trough over Ireland. A weak ridge brings SW'lies tomorrow and on Saturday southerlies affect the UK as a low moves eastwards to the west of Scotland. The low deepens and moves NNE'wards on Sunday, leading to SSW'lies for all. T+120 synopsis http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn12015.png / http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn1201.png http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif / http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/nogapse_cartes.php The jetstream chart shows a trough over the UK, with the jet heading ENE'wards over England and Wales. At the 500hPa level there's an upper low west of Scotland, while MetO has a shallower low further to the NW. ECM has an upper trough over the UK and GEM shows a weak trough over the NW of the UK. At the surface GFS brings low pressure to the west of Scotland with strong WSW'lies over the UK. MetO has a trough over Ireland and southerlies for most of the UK, while ECM has a trough further east with westerlies for most. Low pressure covers Scotland on GEM, with WSW'lies for England and Wales and NW'lies for Northern Ireland. Evolution to T+168 A low covers Wales on day 6 with ECM, with SE'lies across England and Wales as a resuolt. NE'lies cover Scotland and Northern Ireland, followed by NNW'lies for all on day 7 as the low fills over Belgium. Day 6 with GFS brings low pressure over the North Sea. Scotland lies under NW'lies, with WSW'lies or westerlies elsewhere. The low fills over Scotland on day 7 with SSW'lies over England and Wales and NW'lies for Northern Ireland. Looking further afield On day 8 with ECM a weak ridge moves across the UK, followed by little change on day 9. Day 10 has a trough moving eastwards over Scotland and Northern Ireland, with a col elsewhere. Northerlies and NE'lies cover the UK on day 8 with GFS as a low fills over the English Channel. A weak ridge moves SE'wards on day 9, leading to NW'lies for most. The ridge persists on day 10, with a mixture of WSW'lies and westerlies over the UK. Ensemble analysis (http://91.121.94.83/modeles/gens/gra...ille=Lon dres) The ensembles show a brief warm spell over the weekend, followed by a prolonged slightly below average period temperature wise. |
