Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon (GMT) on Wednesday.
Issued 0438z, 26th April 2008 The latter half of next week will see low pressure close to or over the UK, with cool and wet weather for most. By the weekend ECM draws some much warmer air over the UK, but GFS keeps the cool and unsettled theme. Analysis and evolution to T+120 via GFS http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn001.png SSW'lies cover the UK, with a deep low to the NW and a ridge over southern England. Tomorrow a trough moves slowly eastwards with further SSW'lies and southerlies as a result. Low pressure covers Scotland and Northern Ireland on Monday, with SW'lies for the rest of the UK. A secondary low deepens to the west on Tuesday, leading to SSW'lies and southerlies for many areas. T+120 synopsis http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn12015.png / http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn1201.png http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif / http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/nogapse_cartes.php The jetstream chart shows a highly amplified pattern over the North Atlantic, with a deep trough across the UK. At the 500hPa level there's an upper low over the UK, with a large high to the south of Greenland. ECM brings an upper low over the Channel with easterlies aloft for the UK, while MetO shows the low slightly further north, over SE England. GEM has an upper low over Wales instead. At the surface GFS brings low pressure over western Scotland, leading to SE'lies for much of Scotland, SW'lies for England and Wales and NW'lies for Northern Ireland. ECM has a low over the English Channel with cool ENE'lies and easterlies over the UK, while MetO has the low over East Anglia, with NNW'lies and NE'lies. GEM brings low pressure across Wales, which brings SE'lies and ESE'lies for the UK. Evolution to T+168 Low pressure fills atop the UK on day 6 with ECM and by day 7 it moves NW'wards, allowing SSW'lies to affect the UK. Day 6 with GFS brings southerlies for all, with a low to the NW and a trough to the west. Low pressure moves over Ireland on day 7 and a trough crosses England. To the south of the trough winds are SW'lies, with easterlies to the north. Looking further afield On day 8 with ECM much warmer SSE'lies are drawn across the UK as low pressure deepens to the west. Day 9 sees SE'lies and by day 10 a trough moves across the UK, with WSW'lies in the south and easterlies in the north. SW'lies cover the UK on day 8 with GFS as low pressure moves across northern Scotland. On day 9 winds are SW'lies for most as a trough persists over Scotland. Ensemble analysis (http://91.121.94.83/modeles/gens/gra...ille=Lon dres) The ensembles show a brief warm spell this weekend, followed by average or slightly below average temperatures with rain for next week. |
