As you say, Solent the warmest, but the gradual trend towards lower maxes continues, as this week passes. Will we get a day at the weekend where the UK max will be below 20C? probably. Back to around average for mid-May by then. The CET is slipping at 14.9C (Thanks Philip), and that downward trend wil accelerate, as we are likely to have some significantly colder air coming courtesy of a low that is developing over the Baltic. I said a few days ago that temperatures may hold up, keeping the CET higher, but that's not going to be the case, especially in Scotland and the North of England. Watch those tender new plants, if you've been tempted to put in by this fine weather. Frost isn't out of the question in that set-up in the North. Ne're cast a clout 'til May is out" and all that. Still, the very end of May has hints again of some warmer weather, but at that distance, nothing is certain. Start of the Devon County Show today and, of course, wet! Paul |
