Default [WR] Torrential rain in SW Essex - 10.45 am

In the past 20 mins or so the rain has turned torrential, and with an
accompanying strong and gusty ENE wind and very gloomy skies, it's
more like November or February than late May. I'd anticipate some
large totals today to add to yesterday's already significant
rainfall. I know this sort of weather is not unknown for May but it's
proving to be quite an "event", here.

As I said in a previous post someone may get 100mm+ in a 24 hour period.
Enjoy the proper rain! :-)

48 mm so far here Tom, today and yesterday! Whilst exceptional, noted 39mm
on 27th and 28th May last year with max temp of 8C on 28th !

Any particular reason why you top post?

Is it your news-reader? Or are you bone idle?

Anyone know what the percentage water vapout is in the atmosphere
surounding storm centres? If it's 100% humidity it isn't 100% water.

These are the parts making up the atmosphere O/A according to the
Encyclopaedia Britannica:

The present composition of the Earth's atmosphere, in terms of total
molecules, is
Diatomic nitrogen (78.08 percent)
Diatomic oxygen (20.95 percent)
Argon (0.93 percent)
Water (from about 0 to 4 percent) and
Carbon dioxide (0.0325 percent).

The inert gases neon, helium, and krypton and other constituents such
as nitrogen oxides and sulphur compounds are found in lesser amounts.

4% seems excessive but I suppose if you are dodging raindrops in a
thunderstorm things could appear that way.
