..... rainfall read at 09Z for previous 24hr (most of it falling
overnight from ~22Z) = 25.4 mm. Light rain now, but has been
moderate/continuous past couple of hours, and for much of the
overnight period, moderate ocnl heavy.

Rainfall past 10 days = 97 mm; using the mean monthly rainfalls of May
and June, and crudely assuming an even distribution across these past
10 days (which isn't right I know, but I haven't got such detailed
data), then the 97 mm represents very roughly 5 or 6 times the average
we might expect. Unsurprisingly, the ground is saturated.

Martin.

Hello Martin,

Our rainfall in the same 10 day period as yours is a
staggering 137.7mm and is now taking its toll in the
Romsey district. Just ventured out with the dog to
find many footpaths impassable, even in wellies as
nearby brooks have become overflowing torrents.

At least 4 houses are taking in water (in 2 separate
parts of the area) and the Tadburn Brook is at its
highest level since January 2001. The rain may
have eased but it has come too late to prevent
flooding problems. The total rainfall of this event
so far (since 02/0900Z) is 38.8mm, almost all of it
falling in the last 12 hours.

Even some of the trees are creating a hazard, their
leaf-covered branches bending down across the
paths to make for awkward passage underneath.

Nigel (Romsey, Hampshire)

Thankfully, I had chosen today to work from home - so I was spared the
bike ride from Southampton to Chilworth!

Or indeed falling over - as happened on one evening last week on the
railway at Winchester.

.... as of 12Z, another 3 mm, so ~28 mm now for this event. Continuous
slight all morning - still so, but sky showing signs of lightening-up,
so hopefully it will all slowly go away!

Total 'new' rainfall since 09Z = 4.6 mm, so exactly 30 mm for the
event overall - roughly 16 hr.

Since midnight yesterday a modest 11.6mm here at Hilton. Completely
forgot to check the one at work which is somewhat embarrassing!
Fresher feel outside now - out goes the washing therefore

.... perking up nicely now (1640Z/5.40pm CT) here in West Moors: the
sun shining weakly through near-continuous sheet of Cs with thinning
Ac underneath.
