Default Must be midsummer!

Hi, All,
Threat of heavy rain today, lee-slope gale tomorrow and yet another
ground frost last night. Must be midsummer in Copley! Will I ever get
the sweet corn out of the cold frame? (:0)

What ARE you talking about? Speak to them from the South West on here and
they will tell you its been a totally fabulous spring/summer so far. However
one of the problems with that lot is that they love every aspect of out
weather so whatever it is, is great! they ramble on about.

Why is it a problem to simply enjoy whatever the weather throws at you?
You must be very frustrated to see people with this mentality, rather than
your own whingeing persona who moans when he has bad weather
and moans even more when others have better weather than him, as if the
SE has a God-given right to always have the best weather!

Miserable, eh?
London currently has 19C and cloudy.
I'm currently on 10.9C and the rain has only just pulled away.
So don't talk to *me* about miserable.

You must be optomistic by nature to attempt to grow sweet corn where you
live with ground frosts possible so late in the year.

Since 2001 I have had no air frosts in May although ground frosts have
ceratinly occurred but it is possible to protect tender plants such a sweet
corn.

Definitely warm sector weather here today with a maximum of 18.4C and
adewpoint of 15C. It has been quite bright from time to time but the sun
has never broken through.

When I wrote "What ARE you talking about?" in my paragraph I was bein
sarcastic. I was trying to match the scrumpies optimistic stylisation but I
failed so miserably.
Yes you are, living in a generally awful part of the country for weather. I
would never dream of moving north of Watford. Its bad enough here but 10C!
today for you on Midsummers day is just plain crazy and I have every
sympathy.
Interest to see I evidently 'got your goat' on the "Why is it a problem to
simply enjoy whatever the weather throws at you?" - It is a problem because
if the weather does not throw at you good weather then there are things you
cannot do that you could if it were not so bloody awful.

Actually the temp is now up to a staggering 13.5C!
And I expect that to keep on rising steadily this evening and into the
early hours, before falling off tomorrow.
In fact very much like the condions that often occur during winter.
And yes, even though that is essentially 'bad' weather I find that
for such a thing to happen on the summer solstice very interesting indeed.

Interest to see I evidently 'got your goat' on the "Why is it a problem to

'Got my goat?' Nah, not really.
People here are realistic about the British weather and can accept that
it will be inclement for a fair proportion of the time.
And indeed find such 'bad' weather interesting or even exciting.
Tomorrow for example I'm expecting a genuine summer gale here.
It's not the weather I would choose for this time of year, I would
far rather have 25C and sunny.
However 60 mph gusts would be exceptional for June so I'm
interested in the event for it's rarity value if nothing else.

Hi, Alan,
I'm the eternal optimist, we tend to be in this area and I have a go
at something different each year. Cool weather veg like potatoes,
sprouts, leek etc do very well here btw. Ground frosts in every month,
but that's the challenge!
Currently 8C, fog and heavy rain (:0( day max 11C
I'm looking forward to the Beans v Pennine Wave gale tomorrow.
Best wishes,
Ken
