Light rain down here since about 18Z from quite threatening looking skies on
the edge of the frontal band; not expecting too much from it though. Tomorrow looks more interesting as contour heights continue to fall and a further lobe of upper forcing moves up from the SW. 12Z GFS T+24 300mb vorticity field http://www2.wetter3.de/Animation_12_UTC/24_8.gif Any convective development perhaps further enhanced by localised convergence. Just started raining here but judging by the radar, amounts seem to be
disappointingly small. Looking at the forecast though it seems rain will certainly not be in short supply over the next week or so. Is there any chance of some long spells of settled weather this summer? I certainly hope so. Though this June wasn't too bad I don't think I could handle a repeat of last year's cool and unsettled July. Max today of 22.5°C and 9.0 hours of sunshine. (19:35), 17.0°C, RH 81%, DP 13.9°C, 1008.7 hPa (F), Wind 5 mph S. ________________ Nick. Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

The rain here has just about managed to wet the ground. The heaviest rain is breaking out in a very narrow, discontinuous band ahead of the main trough. Rain over the pennines, East of Manchester, at present, on the Northern edge of this pre-frontal development. There's also some heavier rain to the North of me, but the only 'sferics are well to the South over Northern France. So far, Nick, as you say, disappointing, but as I type, slightly heavier rain pushing in over Dawlish and coating my rain-collection vessels! As to your worry......the gfs charts are dire and I may have beetter luck in filling my water butts over the next week. There's a ridge of high pressure showing at the end of the first week of July, but I wouldn't bank on it and there's but precious little else showing on those charts, in terms of settled weather. Another few runs and I'll be extending my unsettled forecast towards mid-month. Sorry to paint such a poor picture. I desperately need sunshine and settled weather for the 14th/15th July! Paul PS I didn't see your June summary on the local telly! Did I miss it? |

I want something settled for this weekend at the Lowender Festival near Bodmin but it looks like it could be a wash-out which is a shame. PS I didn't see your June summary on the local telly! Did I miss it? David hasn't emailed me so I'm presuming he hasn't done his monthly summary yet or he has used somebody else's data. He normally puts the summary together on the 2nd or 3rd so maybe it will be tomorrow. Stopped raining here, just enough to damp the dust. Bah! ________________ Nick. Bah! ________________ Just got back from the frozen north camping Nick. Been near Hadrians wall one mile from Haltwhistle near the Twice Brewed pub circa 800 feet up, temperature was 9C when we arrived and 6C higher up at 1900 feet on the A686. First night (week last Saturday) it was blowing a force 6 with a thunderstorm overnight and the camp pond overflowed and we got a tad wet. Temperature never got above 15C all week, I felt quite at home :-) Still we had some good walking in the north Pennines and a trip to Durham cathedral to see my daughter graduate from Univ. (A proud moment for any father). Very impressed with the huge 4 metres high snow poles on the road to Great Dun Fell radar station. Steady rain this evening, heavy in bursts, up to 14 mm/h, 4.0 mm total so far. Garden is wet and veg etc are growing OK, always no problems up here. Max. today a tolerable 19.3C. June rainfall was 69 mm (AWS). A bit below the average of 95mm. Will (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) -- |

I think I might have taken some comfort in a decent Durham hotel, had it been me! 8)) You've missed some nice weather and you've come back to the rain. Camping in the frozen North.....that'll learn you! Paul |
