Default Rain past 48 hr West Moors, East Dorset

.... 10th July/0900Z readings: a further 9.7 mm last night (18Z - 09Z
this morning), so the total for the past 48 hr is 40.8 mm, a little
less than nearby Hurn, which (using 06-06Z data) recorded 42.8 mm,
though this difference may be more to do with the poor exposure of our
gauge rather than any genuine 'synoptic' or time-of-reading
difference.

Using the Hurn figure (42.8 mm), this represents 116% of the 1971-2000
LTA; the total rainfall for that site so far this month is 64.2 mm, or
173% of LTA. July is the driest month in the Hurn record by some way
[ 37 mm, compared with next driest May (48 mm) ].

This will be the second consecutive July with markedly above-average
rainfall for this area. We have some way to go to reach last year's
total (119 mm) though, which was the wettest July in the record since
1957.

Martin.

Martin,

what were your daily totals for the 8th and 9th?

Just come home from honeymoon in Guernsey and found my rainguage blocked up!
Yesterday was dry and bright down there, completely different story up here,
I gather!

Jim.

Thanks Martin, much appreciated.. and yes, had a lovely time thanks despite
