Default [WR] Better next week!!

The weather's going to improve next week. I say this with complete
confidence despite not being a professional forecaster because it simply
cannot get any worse!

The weather yesterday was truly dire, though today has been dry with some
sunshine a max of only 19.0C makes for a very disappointing July day.

Rainfall now up to 84.9 mm, which well over twice the normal rainfall for
July, and we are only a 3rd the way through the month. Yesterday was the
first day without any sunshine since May 16th.

1st - 10th
Mean min: 12.0°C
Mean max: 19.0°C
Mean: 15.5°C
Sun: 46.9 hours.

The first 10 days of May 2008 were warmer with a mean of 15.7°C.

Nope, whatever you say Keith, this has been the most dire start to July I
have ever known, even beating last year's July (which wasn't really that bad
down here). So I am sticking to it, next week can only get better; it's got
to!!

Ah, of course, apart from the last couple of days, it hasn't realy been
that bad here at Southend, so I guess we have different benchmarks ;-)

I think it is fantastic. Two years on the trot with minimal hayfever
symptoms. Absolute bliss.

I agree with you Nick, though the overall improvement, as you imply,
will be relative and not the same for all areas. It really can't be a
lot worse in July down here..........but a wonderful, marvellous,
timely and welcome bump for the weekend! Enjoy and dry out!

My hayfever is usually over by July anyway.

I agree with Nick. It has been dire. OK perhaps I'm swayed by the fact that
our last walk was abandoned due to a member being helicoptered to hospital
after nearly drowning and hurting herself in a swollen tributary, but the
rain has indeed been relentless. The veg. plot has suffered, except the
turnips which are thriving in the wet. The moor is as wet as it normally is
in October and, although I do like rain, and the prospect of a record is
very exciting, it would be nice to have at least a few days without
raindrops and normal temperatures of 18-19C.

Once the sun comes out even for a few days, the weeds will grow like
billyo. However, having said that, they've been growing quite well in
the wet.

The one good advantage about hot weather I don't need to do the garden.
The weeds have shivelled and died, the lawn is a burnt brown. Just
need to water the flower plants.

Damn well hope so Nick, especially up here in N Yorks...
Been so damn wet that I can't think when we last had a fully dry day :
((

Looking good for Sunday - which'll be nice if it is as we're hoping to
go out in the little car with the hood down... Monday too hopefully
so that I can go out and do some Bat Surveys in the dry and get some
emergence info ?!

Took a day leave today to go to fly Birds of Prey which was bought me
as a present, been totally rained off, not let up at all today

Tales to come no doubt...
