For July, up to 06Z this morning, the total rainfall for Brize Norton (a
crude proxy for Fairford) is 81.3 mm, with the total for the past 7 days
74 mm; the local average is around 43 mm (as with many other spots in the
south - July being, usually, a dry month), so they've had roughly double
normal all-month rainfall since the beginning of the month, much within
the past week. The preceding month (according to charts on the Met O site)
was also within the 125% anomaly isopleth, indeed Fairford (difficult to
be precise from those maps), may have been within the 150% zone.

Sunday's display has been cancelled too, not good news.

I assume they've insurance to cover this kind of thing, as they'll have a
few hundred thousand tickets to refund, wonder if traders get any kind of
refund as well.

.... that is *really* sad news given the preparation/planning that goes
into these events and the expectations of people wanting to go - it's
a really great day out for all the family. And in the 90th anniversary
year of the RAF.

Surely the latter part, rain being evenly distributed throughout the
year, has traditionally been fairly true, at least in eastern areas,
where every months typically has a mean between 50mm and 75mm. There may
be a slight tendency for an autumn max and a spring min, but it's not
very pronounced. (Of course, summer rain tends to be less prolonged than
winter rain, but heavier so that mean totals are similar.)
