Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon (GMT) on Saturday.
Issued 0507z, 15th July 2008 The end of the weekend and start of next week will see a ridge moving in from the west, with a brief settled spell as a result. Before then though there's likely to be widespread rain as a trough moves eastwards. Analysis and evolution to T+120 via GFS http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn001.png WSW'lies cover the UK, with low pressure to the north and a trough to the west. Tomorrow the winds become westerlies as the trough moves eastwards, followed by by further westerlies on Thursday. Friday sees a secondary low over the North Sea and a mixture of WNW'lies and westerlies as a result. T+120 synopsis http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn12014.png / http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn1201.png http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif / http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/nogapse_cartes.php The jetstream chart shows a trough over the UK, with a ridge to the west. At the 500hPa level there's also a trough over the UK, with upper NW'lies. MetO shows less of a trough, with upper WNW'lies, while ECM brings upper westerlies. GEM shows upper WNW'lies with a trough to the east. At the surface GFS has NW'lies or NNW'lies for most, with low pressure over the North Sea and a weak ridge to the west. MetO shows a trough to the east and WNW'lies for the UK. WNW'lies also feature on the ECM output, again due to a trough to the east. GEM brings a weak ridge over the UK, with WNW'lies. Evolution to T+168 Day 6 with ECM shows a ridge over Ireland and NW'lies for all. The winds become SW'lies on day 7 as the ridge moves eastwards. GFS also brings a ridge for Ireland and NW'lies for the UK on day 6. On day 7 the winds become SW'lies as pressure builds to the east. Looking further afield On day 8 with ECM high pressure builds to the east, helped by a deep trough from ex-Bertha to the west. Southerlies and SSW'lies bring hot air over the UK, followed by strong SW'lies as ex-Bertha approaches the UK on day 9. By day 10 the low deepens to the WNW, with strong SW'lies for most. Further SW'lies cover the UK on day 8 with GFS, followed by westerlies on day 9 as a weak ridge moves eastwards. On day 10 ex-Bertha lies to the NW, with strong SW'lies for all. Ensemble analysis (http://91.121.94.83/modeles/gens/gra...ille=Lond res) The ensembles show a warm day today, followed by a week-long colder spell. |
