Default Possibility of some very severe UK weather this afternoon/evening

Presently, the MetO have flash warnings out for the NE and SW (though,
wierdly, only Cornwall in shaded orange!?):

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/..._warnings.html

TORRO have a tornado and large hail watch out for this evening and
into tonight:

http://www.torro.org.uk/torro/forecast/index.php

Some exceptional conditions possible as this plume really takes its
cap off and bids us farewell.

Would this be the event that Ms Kirkwood has been referring to in the
last ccouple of days - storms that could be very stormy indeed, and
humdingers?

What's that crossing the Loire and heading Northwards? MCS?

Those storms are on a heading of 030, and the ones currently in existance
will miss the UK, judging by the sat animation..

Well Les, it is pretty quiet and clammy up here in Bedford- and I
don't think it has been too spectacular down at home in Dorset. I
think the only chance of some 'fireworks' is something from France but
Bernard thinks these are not heading our way I think.

Robin

there's a lot of red on the radar but no sferics - nothing on LW radio
either

TORRO have upgraded their warning to a tornado watch - camera is still
ready!

Lots of sferics over Northern France. That storm over the Loire is
moving NE and there are other storms over NW France moving NE as well.
The whole lot may just miss the SE corner of England. A damp squib for
us? Still got the night to go, but this may end up as no more than a
threat.

.... up to this time (31/1945Z) been a damp squib this part of Dorset:
trace of rain both here and down at Hurn - never looked particularly
threatening - OVC AC, with ocnl glimpse of mid-level instability.
Outside chance of something clipping us next hour or so from the
cluster now crossing the mid-Channel I suppose.

Martin.
