I noticed that there was an exceptionally heavy dew for the time of year
this morning. Could that be the explanation?

Yes, John and Phil, the same here in Wokingham, 0.2 mm on the TBR overnight
and also a steady drip into the TSR between midnight and 04z. I guess that
the relatively warm soil, now wet from yesterday's rain, kept the air near
the ground close to saturation by evaporation, with a steady 4 to 6 knots at
10 m providing enough mixing to prevent fog. Objects cooled by radiation
immersed in this will collect plenty of condensation.

Same here, and also the first night below 10C for a couple of weeks.

Its possible, although now Ive looked, it recorded at 01Z.
I have always thought that with a tipping bucket mechanism, that it is one
last drop which causes it to register, when in fact the majority of the
drops arrived earlier.. the last of yesterdays rain recorded at 21Z..

Phil
