Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon (GMT) on Sunday.
Issued 0509z, 13th August 2008 The beginning of next week looks to be unsettled for all, with low pressure close by and temperatures at or below average. By midweek the models split, with GFS keeping the unsettled theme going and ECM bringing a weak ridge and thus warmer and more settled conditions. Analysis and evolution to T+120 via GFS http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn001.png Low pressure covers southern Scotland and Northern Ireland. Winds are NE'lies for northern Scotland and SW'lies across England and Wales. Tomorrow a trough covers Scotland and Northern Ireland, with SW'lies elsewhere. A col covers much of the UK on Friday and the col persists on Saturday. T+120 synopsis http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn12014.png / http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn1201.png http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif / http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/nogapse_cartes.php The jetstream chart still shows a southerly tracking jet across the North Atlantic, with the jet heading eastwards over Iberia and the western Mediterranean. At the 500hPa level theres an upper col, with a trough to the west. MetO also has a trough to the west, while ECM has a weak trough over Scotland. GEM brings an upper low over the UK. At the surface GFS shows a shallow low over the UK, with light SW'lies for England and Wales and easterlies or NE'lies elsewhere. MetO brings a shallow trough over the UK and has light winds for all. ECM shows a trough over Scotland, bringing SE'lies to the far north and SW'lies for most of the UK. GEM has a low over the Irish Sea, leading to ENE'lies for Scotland and Northern Ireland with WSW'lies for much of England and Wales. Evolution to T+168 Day 6 with ECM brings low pressure over East Anglia, with strong to gale force WSW'lies for southern and SE England. Elsewhere winds are lighter WNW'lies. On day 7 a ridge approaches from the west, leading to WNW'lies. Low pressure covers the southern North Sea on day 6 with GFS, leading to NE'lies for Scotland and Northern Ireland with NW'lies for England and Wales. The winds become westerlies on day 7 as low pressure moves northwrds. Looking further afield On day 8 with ECM WSW'lies associated with a ridge cover the UK. On day 9 winds become SW'lies for all as a trough approaches from the west, followed by by further SW'lies on day 10. A trough covers the Scottish border on day 8 with GFS, leading to SW'lies to the south and strong northerlies for both Scotland and Northern Ireland. On day 9 northerlies affect all areas, as low pressure fills over Belgium. Day 10 sees a weak ridge move down from the NW, with further northerlies. Ensemble analysis (http://91.121.94.83/modeles/gens/gra...ille=Lond res) The ensembles continue to paint a cool picture for the forseeable future. |
