As Wokingham is a good 'proxy' for an inland site in the highly populated inland part of SE England, do you have any data to put that into context? Was it in the 'top 10%' of the record (for August and/or summer) for example? Martin. -- Martin Rowley West Moors, East Dorset (UK): 17m (56ft) amsl Lat: 50.82N Long: 01.88W NGR: SU 082 023 |

Regarding the length of my wind record, we set up the anemo in 1987, and have 21 years of August/summer stats. The mean speed for Aug 2008 is 6.2 kt, making it 2nd highest in 21 years after 1992, 7.1 kt. The 21 year average for Aug is 5.0 kt, SD 0.9kt. The record gust for August stands at 41 kt, and was also recorded in 1992, on the 30th. For the summer season, this year's 5.8 kt mean speed has been equalled or exceeded 6 times in 21 years, ranked as follows: 1988 6.3 kt 1994 6.1 kt 1992 6.0 kt 1990 5.9 kt 1991 5.8 kt 1993 5.8 kt 2008 5.8 kt The 21 year average for summer is 5.3 kt, SD 0.6 kt. I am afraid I do not have any earlier wind stats for this area. -- Bernard Burton Wokingham, Berkshire, UK.
