Thunder and hail here in Branksome Poole about 15:20. Very slow moving thundery showers. Heavy rain with some large hail. A big group of staff gathered to watch a very menicing dark cloud with rotation that could be seen very clearly. One member of staff got a lump on his head from a very large piece of hail approx 12mm diametre. Heardly a breath of wind. Clouds seem to be forming in situ. .... not surprised at that report; the event we had up here (further inland) was always 'on the edge' of something that seemed to be concentrated down your way, with another cell to our east. Was watching the cloud filaments here rather carefully about the same time (trying to get the grass cut in between bursts of rain), but nothing seen. However the situation IMV was such that a 'funnel' or similar might be seen. Martin. -- Martin Rowley West Moors, East Dorset (UK): 17m (56ft) amsl Lat: 50.82N Long: 01.88W NGR: SU 082 023 |

Must have been raining hard in Bournemouth - several roads are/have been closed by flooding, including the Wessex Way (main A338), Alder Road, St Stephen's Way, etc. Ground was dry as far as Ringwood (commute from Southampton back to Bournemouth). Jonathan Around 31mm fell here between 1430 and 1645bst. 12mm fell in 10 minutes early on, hard to tell the timings after that as the rainguage got blocked (again!). Coming home from Bournemouth Airport arin d 1540 or so and the Wessex Way was an inch deep most of the way between Cooper Dean and Springbourne where I exit. Jim, Bournemouth |

Jim, Bournemouth .... quite a gradient of rainfall then over ~10 km; 31 mm with you, Hurn reported 7 mm on the 18Z SYNOP, and we had just 3.6 mm. A lot of lightning between 1700 and 1830 BST but heaviest rain was to the east of Shrewton towards Larkhill/Amesbury. Boscombe Down reported 25mm upto 1800Z. John http://www.shrewtonweather.co.uk/ |

I have a scary feeling that this post is going to be the most recent post
for quite a while, maybe even for a year. ________________ Nick. Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |
