After a Max of 19.6C yesterday, and a chilly minimum of 8.8C last
night, todays max has been held down slightly at 18.8C, as yesterdays near calm conditions have been replaced by a Force 3 onshore SE. Also yesterday's glassy sea conditions in the bay, have been replace by rather choppy conditions, with a few white horses. Swells back www.sennen-cove.com/todaysurf.htm . Wave period supposed to be 9-10secs, but it seems a long wavelength for that. Good clean surfing conditions on north & west facing beaches with an offshore breeze. After a cloudless morning, a little stratocumulus running westwards just off the south coast, visible on www.metoffice.gov.uk/satpics/latest_uk_vis.html (15:00 image) Not affecting the land, apart from possibly the Lizard. Latest numerical wave model analysis for the area shows two swells. One of abut 2.5 feet from 270 deg with a period of 9 sec and a second one of about 1.5 feet from 300 deg with a period of 11 sec. That may not match reality :-) Norman -- Norman Lynagh Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire 85m a.s.l. (remove "thisbit" twice to e-mail) |

The swell direction is perfect for Sennen, and the off-shore wind means that the height of the wave when it breaks on a few well placed sand bars could well be than the open sea swell height. Yesterday the sea was flat, glassy calm but today there was a 2-3 feet swell with white horses further out in the bay. Still managed a fairly comfortable swim despite the coolish breeze (sea temp around 16.5°C). Seems very busy around here for this time in September, lots of holiday-makers appear to have come down for the weekend. Cloudless skies all day and a max of 19.6°C (tempered somewhat by the SE breeze) after a pretty chilly overnight low of 7.2°C. First day of unbroken sunshine since July 27th. Over 82 hours of sun now for September. ________________ Nick. Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

The sunshine recorded has just switched off at 18:59 after a gloriously
sunny day here. A total of 11.6 hours of sunshine which is 94% of the possible bringing the total up to 83 hours for September. If this continues then the sunshine this month should easily beat the paltry 120 hours recorded for August. ________________ Nick. Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |
