Newsgroup via Outlook Express but see the last post is sometime ago.
So I now go via Google Groups - anyone any idea if there is a problem
with the Newsgroup?

.... it's not the *newsgroup* - that has been reasonably active all the
while; I see you are a Demon customer: I understand there have been
problems with the Demon newsfeed - there have been some posts on this
subject but in essence I understand that Demon news-servers are not
doing very well :-(

problems with the Demon newsfeed - there have been some posts on this
subject but in essence I understand that Demon news-servers are not
doing very well :-(

There is, however, a potential problem with Google Groups. A couple of
months ago, a number of spammers started to use Google Groups to spam
newsgroups with adverts, mainly for shoes from China and surrounding
countries. Google either couldn't or wouldn't do anything to stop this
spamming so a large number of usenet users (myself included) now block
anything from Google Groups.

I only saw the OP because it had been replied to and not snipped. Using
Google Groups means you may not be talking to the whole of usenet.

There isn't a problem with the newsgroup but - as many others have
reported - there's one at present with Demon's news server. Until it's
fixed, you'll be better off sticking with Google for your news feed.

I found my the newsfeed from my own ISP for uk.sci.weather began "drying
up" some time ago so I switched to another free newsgroup provider at
"freetext.usenetserver.com". Seems to keep tabs with most posts on the
newsgroup.

Of the newsgroups that I subscribe to uk.sci weather is quite prolific.
88 messages arrived tonight and perhaps 30 earlier today.
Have you tried searching for the group in the set up procedures for OE -
perhaps you have inadvertently lost your sub or even not paid your fees
to ISP. Or newnews might be wrong or the port changed without you
knowing it. Even free ones seem to require renewal of some sort and do
not tell you.


If you want to set up new with this server it is free (a sender of the
last resort) and no authentication is needed and they carried
uk.sci.weather the last time I used it.

say I've noticed that much spamming in USW, or that any regular
contributers to USW have not been reading my posts. I notice your name
in threads which I, and other Google Group users, have posted.

Using Google Groups is certainly preferable to Demon, and has been for
a long time.

Groups. I am getting 200 spam emails per day now because I made that
mistake - once!
