Default Today's model interpretation (28/09/08)

Note: As is usual during the summer half of the year, I'll be leaving soon
for the wolves - hence this shorter analysis.

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon (GMT) on Thursday.
Issued 0456z, 28th September 2008.

The end of the working week will see a transitory ridge move swiftly
eastwards over the UK. Thereafter some strong winds are likely across the UK
as a low deepens to the NW, explosively so in the case of GFS. All areas
will see wind and rain during Saturday, with a ridge moving eastwards on
Sunday.

ECMWF: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da...mwf/ecmwf.html
NW'lies cover the UK due to a ridge to the west and a low over Finland. Day
6 sees a ridge move eastwards, leading to light winds for most. On day 7 a
low deepens to the NW, with strong southerlies as a result.

MetO: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da...ukmo/pslv.html
MetO shows NW'lies for all, again with a ridge to the west. On day 6 there
are WNW'lies as the ridge declines over Ireland.

GFS: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/pslv_frame.htm
WNW'lies cover the UK due to a ridge to the west. A low undergoes explosive
cyclogenesis to the NW on day 6, leading to gale or severe gale force
SW'lies and WSW'lies. On day 7 the low fills to the NE, with much lighter
westerlis and WSW'lies over the UK.

GEM: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da.../gem/pslv.html
The Canadaian run shows WNW'lies and a similar setup to the other runs.

JMA: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rjma1201.gif
The Japanese run shows a deep low to the NE and strong WNW'lies over the UK
as a result.
