Default Snowcover in S Shropshire

I travelled from Ludlow to Bewdley via the A4117 over Clee Hill about an
hour ago. The snowline seemed *generally* to be around the 200m mark, but
there were wide variations: judging by the bits and pieces of snow in the
gutters, it had been snow right down into Hopton Wafers, which is *well*
under 100m and in fact considerably lower down than Bewdley (where all we
got was sleety rain)!

Above 300m, in Doddington, Cleehill village and over the hill itself,
there was still substantial snowcover as it was starting to get dark. A
couple of lawns with shelter from the sun (the road runs along the
southern flank of the hill) still had 90-100% cover, and the piles of
shovelled snow in a couple of gardens seemed to indicate that several cm
of snow had lain this morning. Two quite impressive snowmen were seen,
both with heads starting to loll but both still intact.

So... I've now seen lying snow on three successive calendar days in
October and in three different locations, all in built-up areas. Quite
extraordinary stuff.
