Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Friday.
Issued 0509, 3rd November 2008 Low pressure will dominate the UK over the weekend, with a low to the NW bringing SW'lies across the UK. As usual in these situations, the heaviest rain will be in the north and west. Analysis and evolution to T+120 via GFS http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn001.png A col covers Scotland and Northern Ireland, with NE'lies elsewhere. The NE'lies persist tomorrow for England and Wales, with a ridge over Scotland and Northern Ireland. There's little change on Wednesday, but by Thursday a col covers all areas except Scotland, which lies under easterlies and a ridge. T+120 synopsis http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn12014.png / http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn1201.png http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif / http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/nogapse_cartes.php The jetstream chart shows a much stronger jet than of late over the North Atlantic, with a light southerly flow over the UK. At the 500hPa level there are WSW'lies, with a deep upper low near Iceland. MetO shows upper southerlies, with a trough to the west, while ECM brings upper southerlies too. GEM has upper southerlies as the result of a small upper low to the west. At the surface, GFS has southerlies due to a trough to the west. MetO has a trough over the Irish Sea, with southerlies and SSE'lies for the UK. ECM has SSW'lies and a trough over England, while GEM shows a mixture of SSW'lies and southerlies, again with a weak trough over the UK. Evolution to T+168 Day 6 with ECM shows SSW'lies with a secondary low to the west. There are further SSW'lies on day 7 as the low moves swiftly NE'wards to the north of the UK. On day 6 with GFS strong to gale force SW'lies cover the UK, with a deep low to the NW. Day 7 sees the low to the north and strong to gale force SW'lies persisting. Looking further afield On day 8 with ECM a WSW'ly flow covers the UK, with lows to the north and WNW. Day 9 sees a weak ridge over England and Wales with a col elsewhere, followed by a ridge for most on day 10. The exception is Scotland, which lies under SW'lies. GFS brings a trough to the east on day 8, with WSW'lies and westerlies across the UK. The winds become WNW'lies on day 9 as the trough persists to the east and on day 10 the winds become WSW'lies as low pressure moves across Iceland. Ensemble analysis (http://91.121.94.83/modeles/gens/gra...ille=Lon dres) The ensembles continue to show temperatures generally around, or slightly above average for the forseeable future. |
