Default [WR] Ground frost

Air minimum of +2.1°C here which equals the record for the month of August
at this site. (1994-present)
Previously occurring on the 22/08 1994 and 30/08 1998.
Grass minimum (so far) -0.7°C. Only the 4th instance of ground frost
recorded in August at this site since 1994.
It certainly is a shock to the system out there!
Air frost tonight?
Alex.

Hi, Alex,

It's certainly cooling down atm! No ground frost over this side - the
northerlies are too strong. Down to 0.6C on two nights earlier this
month. I noticed quite a few stations reporting ground frost on the
WeatherOnline site.

The interesting thing here in Copley is that the mean August grass min
is now below average and the screen temperatures are within 1C of
average. What a difference a week makes!

I think you could well have air frost tonight with the lighter wind in
the west. Shap reported 0C this morning.

ATB,

Certainly is, no air frost yet. Lowest has been 3.4C at 0612 on the
30th. Don't have a grass thermometer so don't know if there was an
associated ground frost.

The mice seem to think winter is coming though, they have just started
coming into the house for warmth. Caught two of the little blighters
last night, just about to deport them up onto the fells.

Hi Dave, I've noticed in the last few evenings that I have taken to

Like the mice, except their jersey is our house. The CH has been
kicking in once or twice a day this week, noticeable increase in oil
consumption. Needed pullover under padded shirt outside this afternoon
around at around 13C.

Lovely and warm by day but cools off quickly in the evening.

Yes, there is still a lot of heat in the sun but gets chilly quickly
once it goes or in the shade.

Day max. today was 17.4 deg C and felt warm in the sun but now down
to 11.5 deg C in cloud and feeling a tad "nippy".

Temperature (to 2100)
Min: 4.4°C at 06:16
Max: 15.5°C at 15:04
Avg: 12.0°C

9C at 2147, fairly cloudy about 3,000' (just onto the top of Cross
Fell) or was before the light went.
