This is not good for Cuba as this will hit a different part of the Island than the other two, devastating yet another massive area. How unusual is it to get a Cat 4 hurricane in November? http://www.cira.colostate.edu/cira/R.../tropical.html -- Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net e-mail: kreh at southendweather dot net I think Paloma is the 6th Cat 4 hurricane in November to plague the North Atlantic Basin since 1851 when records began. The strongest of those was Lenny in 1999, carrying max sustained winds of 135kt and caused significant damage to the usually sheltered west and southwest facing harbours of the northern Leeward Islands on the 19th November because it traversed the Caribbean Sea in an unusual west to east direction. I've just added a few more locations to my Americas page in the Worldwide Reports, this has included another 7 locations from Cuba I have found. The one of interest will be: 78351 - Santa Cruz Del Sur, Camaguey(2m)# as this is on a collision course with Paloma, but I expect it to go off air unfortunately :-( I also made some small adjustments to pick up some 24 hour rainfall totals for other Cuban locations that are either a change or I hadn't noticed before. I's surprised at how many Cuban locations have reported at 12:00gmt today, but some quite substantial rainfall totals: 78353 Nuevitas, Camaguey(4m)# x x 172.6 78229 Varadero/MT(65m) x x 153.0 78363 Contramaestre, Santiago De Cuba(100m)# 30.3 23.1 105.4 78355 Camaguey(122m) x x 94.5 78358 Puerto Padre, Las Tunas(13m) 29.7 24.7 71.8 78351 Santa Cruz Del Sur, Camaguey(2m)# No report, but this one was on the firing line. Glad we were still not at Veradero, the Metars suggestested temperatures were about 21c max yesterday with a strong NE wind + 153mm of rain! -- Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net e-mail: kreh at southendweather dot net |
