uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged. |

.... the cold front (with minor but potent waves) that crossed us
yesterday is wandering its way across NW Europe - the overnight rainfall radar returns showed that the 'line convection' element was particularly fine (for a meteorologist!), though not perhaps if you were actually underneath it. I've put a simple composite at this address .... http://freespace.virgin.net/martin.r...8_NWEurope.htm Note the very long, near-continuous linear featu the books talk about ' hundreds of kilometres ' in better examples; this one was at least 1400 km with only minor weakening & lasted many hours as a coherent feature. These features can spawn hail, thunder and tornadoes - not sure if there are any reports of such activity though. Could anyone with more information or an AWS in the area contact me, thanks, David |
