Default Met Office seasonal forecast on new web site

.... as noted elsewhere, the Met Office have changed their web site.
Not a lot 'new' there, and some things are now 'protected' by a
password!

If you want to find the seasonal forecast output, you'll need to
register:-

Science - Months ahead - Seasonal forecasting.

Register for a username & password (grrrrrr ... more passwords to
write down), then you'll find these charts via this page after logging
in.

Martin.

Judging by my username and password it's not very anti-heuristic unless I am
the first person to register! It looks like the username, at least, is
generic.

.... I'm guessing that it will be the same argument they used when
hiding the aviation stuff: they want to document/tally who is using
the service. It's as annoying as these little pop-ups you get from
some web sites that ask .... "can you complete a survey?"

Oh, for crying out loud. I wish I knew what idiotic internal gibberish
leads to this sort of crap. How long before we all have to register to
see the bloody weather warnings?

Yes, I do have too many of these blasted passwords to remember. About 90%
of the things I've had to register for (not just weather-related) have
*no* common-sense reason for it, and are there just because of bean-
counters having nothing better to do.

That was not a balanced, thoughtful post, I know!

If they've currently got the resources for that there would seem to be
scope for saving a few pounds of taxpayers' money :-)

It has more balance & thought than the MetO demanding a password. I
normally use a vaguely rude password for everything apart from the
very few genuinely important ones, balls2u - that sort of thing (a bit
pointless I know, but it makes me feel better). I use windows to
remember the password, and, if it's a regularly visited site, include
the password in the 'favourites' title.

I didn't notice an option to change the password on the MetO site.

Well I got there IN THE END without the need to set up a new password
(maybe it recognised my aviation password already set up).

But I said IN THE END. What a rigmarole. Click this (science), then
months ahead, then seasonal forecasts, then UK/Europe forecast for the
forthcoming season (click on seasonal tab), then make sure you go to
the forthcoming season (not the archive forecasts). Whoever designed
that routine must be proud of his website skills but doesn't live in
the real world. Far too many steps required.

Jack
