Default Current temperature may be highest for at least two weeks!

Enjoy today. Temperature is currently at 11.8C - I doubt if it'll reach
that again for some time, from what I can see in the charts ;-)

It can't be often these days that you can say that the temperature
won't reach 11.8C for two weeks - even at this time of year!
This does seem to have been a year of repeated cold outbreaks, ever
since March - can't think of a year with such a tendency for a long
time.

Its all very exciting Dave, there is definitely a buzz that this
winter will be diffrent to anything we've experienced for some time-
mind you I say that every bloody year :-)

I believe I speak for many who are old enough to remember how the cold
would last for weeks with snow on the ground just not budging, local
ponds frozen for days on end. Harsh cold stuff but for some illogical
reason so many wonderful deeply embedded emotions and memories. Yes I
know it's late November but a winter like 78/79 would be just fine by
me.

We had it tough when I were a lad :-)

The call it Global cooling, it started to happen as soon as they changed
Global warming to climate change!!

Don't get TWO carried away with the lads, Lawrence, it will all end in
tears. Plenty of scope for those blocking highs to drift in to the wrong
place and end up with dull, damp, grey 6 deg C. :-(

The ever optimistic, Dave.

Experiencing as I did the harsh winters of 1947 and 1963 and the problems
they brought I take little pleasure in the prospect, however remote, of
prolonged cold weather. I know that for some cold weather is enjoyable on
a personal level but generally the problems for many are so obvious that I
won't list them.
Winter wouldn't be winter without some cold spells - but I hope they're
brief. - just enough to kill off a few nasty bugs and insects.
Regards
John
----------------------

Your points are valid John, I agree. Having just missed 1947 and enjoyed
1963 as a thirteen year old I would probably be one that would suffer
(especially with me dodgy arthritic knees!) but I would just like to see
what it would be like in the modern era, compared to then.
Dave

Not wanting to put a damper on things, but in my experience a cold snap
late November certainly does not mean a cold winter, in fact quite the
reverse.

Sorry ;-)
