Default August in Belgium - a wet month after all ?

Belgium on Friday

Thursday night's min. temps were mostly 13 to 14°C - ranging between
12.8°C at Brasschaat north of Antwerp and 17.2°C at Virton in the extreme SE
which remained significantly warmer than other sites.

Friday was cool - 14 to 17°C in the SE half of the country (except the
extreme SE) and 17 to 19°C in Flanders.

Liège Bierset 14.4°C, St Hubert (563 m) 15.2°C, Genk (Limburg) 15.9°C.

Semmerzake and Kapelle o/d Bos (north of Brussels) 18.5°C, Virton 19.0°C,
Zele (near Antwerp) 19.6°C.

A depression moving from France to Germany via the Belgian Ardennes brought
a very abrupt end to the dry spell. Much of Belgium reported over 25 mm
rain in a few hours on Thursday night - Brussels had half its average
August rainfall in 12 hours. Thunder was heard in places late Thursday
evening and again in the early morning on Friday. Rain seems to have been
heaviest in an area to the NE and east of Brussels - some places here
recorded over 50 mm.

Reported rainfall totals over 40 mm in 24 hours ending 18.00 UTC on Friday

Zele 40.2 mm, Lembeek (SW of Brussels) 42.3 mm, Ronse (SW Flanders) 44 mm,
Gaasbeek (SW of Brussels) 44.3 mm, St Hubert 45 mm, Kapelle o/d Bos 47.2
mm, Chièvres (near Mons) 50 mm, Rijmenam (NE of Brussels) 51.5 mm,
Bonheiden (NE of Brussels) 52 mm, Ransberg (east of Brussels) 67.6 mm.
