uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged. |

I seem to remember seeing -0. something at 09 yesterday. Or are your max/mins 06-18/18-06 ? Regards -- Bernard Burton Wokingham, Berkshire, UK. Southcote - 0900Z SSE F3-4 8000 -DZ 6St008 8Sc015 +6.5/+5.0 1012 Briefly back into fog 1600 - 1630, then a cloudy evening and night. A hint of drizzle in the air. Max +6.7 (overnight) Min +2.8 (1800 yesterday) Grass Min +2.6 Rain Tr Eric Belton Bernard, in reply to your question. My readings are taken as follows........ Maximum (09 - 09) thrown back, so at 0900 this morning, the highest reading in the past 24 hours would be entered on the 14th. Minimum is the overnight one (18 - 09), so this mornings +2.8 will be the entry for the 15th. Grass Min as above (18 - 09). Rainfall (09 - 09) thrown back, so the 24 hour total read at 0900 in the morning is entered as for the previous day I always enter data as above on my COL return and in reports to the Newsgroup But I have noticed that you (and others) give readings for the period 09 - 09. So, do you use 09 - 09 for Max, Min, Grass Min and Rainfall when submitting data to COL and are all readings thrown back? There was something a few months back about this, in answer to a query from a member on the newsgroup, but cant find a copy of it. I think that it suggested entering data as I am doing at present. Eric Thanks Eric, that does explain your reading this morning. For my readings to COL, I follow the standard climatological practice, the max min and rain are taken at 09z, and refer to the period 09-09z. The max and rain are thrown back, but not the min. Grass min is for the 'overnight period', ie with the instrument reset at dusk. (or for the AWS, 16 to 09z at this time of year) You will, I am sure, have your own reasons for having a hybrid schedule, with a mixture of times, 24 hours for max and 15 hours for min. Nonetheless, this will make a slight difference to your monthly data for min, depending on the number of days with the min near 09z on the previous day, when you compare it with other COL data using the usual convention.
