Unexpected heavy snow showers this afternoon, didn't think the
forecast had even mentioned much in the way of rain, let alone snow! Struggling a bit to settle initially at 85m near Bolton town centre where I work, about 1cm there but around 3cm up at 160m where I live. Any other snow reports, can't see any apart from Penzance! -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl |

Any other snow reports, can't see any apart from Penzance! We've had temporary coverings of snow the last two days, but only following the usual mix of rain/sleet/snow/soft hail showers. I've seen little significant lying snow except to the west on ground over 500ft. -- Mike Tullett - Coleraine 55.13°N 6.69°W posted 19/01/2009 19:07:31 GMT |

Some roads are treacherous with freezing snow melt (especially minor roads and the A682 Rawtenstall to Burnley route). No sign at all of any gritters around 18:45 as I made my way up. Currently: air temp: -0.4C dewpoint: -0.7C Steve Graham Rossendale 950' AMSL |

Currently: air temp: -0.4C dewpoint: -0.7C I'm currently on 0.0C and everything is getting cruncy underfoot, well it's better than walking through slush! The main roads didn't appear to have been gritted today, not surpisingly due to the lack of snow forecast, but to be fair they didn't really need it,. The snow fell during the day and the relitively high temperatures and pressure of traffic saw to no probelems on any roads I saw. I did see a gritter skulking around the side streets earlier to be fair.... -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl |
