Thought I could share a brief snow report from the North Pennines.
(Great Dun Fell Northwards). Deep cover of snow at all levels. Main snow fell on Sunday night into Monday morning (2nd) and then again during the evening of the 2nd into the 3rd Feb. Local gritting crew reporting almost 12 hrs of continual snowfall most of which drifted extensivley. Hard to judge the drifts but some are well over 6 feet high. (A686 Hartside). Deepest snow was around the village of Nenthead and along the B6277 towards County Durham. I measured the snow depth in Nenthead today in several locations in a relatively sheltered area which was not affected by drifting. Steady 35cm throughout my measurements. That was taken today at 1630hrs so I will assume there will have been a slight sinking of the snow over the last couple of days. Paul C Brampton, Cumbria www.bramptonweather.co.uk |
