For Penzance Monday night 72mph gust forecast, in an off shore
northerly. Snow at the same time, so 70mph gusts, snow & no weather warning? Probably because none believes it, or has looked. ( http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/...t_weather.html ) . Falmouth, where a northerly wind funnels down the river just 50mph. Why are forecasts for extreme winds in Penzance always when the winds offshore? I can't believe it's based on the old Penzance weather station readings. Whatever the reason, if a northerly wind is going to gust over 70mph in Penzance, they should consider evacuating St Ives. On 3 occasions this winter, there's been a forecast of mean speeds 50 mph with an offshore wind. On none of these occasions were there even gusts that high, or has the mean speed exceeded 30mph. I feel these 5 day forecasts for particular locations should be scrapped, or some effort put in to make them at least look sensible. Graham Penzance |
